1080p Full HD LCD TV
1080p Full HD (High Definition) Television a TV display technology that delivers the
clearest and sharpest images currently available on LCD TV's. 1080p refers to the 1,080 lines of vertical resolution and the ‘p’
meaning 'progressive scan' (all the lines of each frame are drawn in
sequence rather the older interlace method where the odd lines, then
the even lines of each frame (each image now called a field) are drawn
alternately - result = poor quality picture!).
1080p Full HD LCD TVs are now widely available in flat
panel LCDs of 32 inch and above.
Understanding 1080p
1080p is not only used to describe HDTV it's
also referred to when explaining video equipment capabilities. The
terms 1080p, and 1080i, can be used to reference video equipment that
upscales to 1080p - this means taking a lower resolution output and
then reformating it into 1080p resolution display. Note, the
resulting image
created using this upscaling technology is not the same as the original
1080p source
material on a native 1080p capable-display. Another point to note is
that hardware
capable of displaying both 720p and 1080i
may not be capable of displaying 1080p/1080i images
at full resolution. Many manufacturers routinely downnscale to
the native capability of the equipment.
The
Philips LCD TV's that display on this site are all Full HD LCD
products. This means you get all the benefits of 1080p. If you attach
equipment with a lower resolution, i.e. a 720p home cinema, you may not
get the best display due to the downscaling features of the TV sets.
Always make sure your AV devices are compatible with the Philips 42 inch LCD TV that you
are buying.
